Policy & Issues
Real positions on the issues that matter most to the people of the Redlands — the things we hear about at the front door, at the school gate, and in our local shops.
Cost of Living
Redlands families are under real financial pressure. Groceries, fuel, energy bills, and insurance costs have all surged — and too many households are struggling to keep up. Shaun believes government should be doing more to ease the burden on everyday people, not just talking about it.
- Advocate for targeted cost-of-living relief for low and middle income Redlands families, including energy bill rebates and emergency financial assistance programs
- Push for greater competition and transparency in local grocery and fuel pricing to prevent price gouging in our community
- Support local businesses and markets that keep spending in the Redlands economy and provide affordable alternatives to major chains
- Fight for better access to Centrelink, Services Australia, and community financial counselling services locally — so residents don't have to travel far to get help
- Oppose any new taxes or levies that disproportionately hit working families in the Redlands
Housing & Affordability
Too many Redlands residents — especially young people and families — are being priced out of the area they grew up in. Rents have skyrocketed, and buying a home feels out of reach for many. We need housing solutions that work for locals, not just developers.
- Support community-led, sensible housing development that meets genuine local need without destroying the character of our suburbs
- Advocate for more social and affordable housing options in the Redlands, particularly for key workers, young families, and seniors
- Protect established neighbourhoods from overdevelopment — density must be appropriate and infrastructure must keep pace
- Push for stronger renter protections and fairer lease conditions for the growing number of Redlands residents who rent
- Oppose developments that prioritise developer profits over community liveability and local amenity
Environment & Green Spaces
The Redlands Coast is one of the most beautiful and ecologically significant parts of Queensland — home to koalas, shorebirds, Moreton Bay, and some of the last remaining bushland corridors in South East Queensland. Protecting it is not optional.
- Protect local bushland, wetlands, waterways, and coastal areas from inappropriate clearing and development
- Advocate for stronger koala habitat protections and wildlife corridor preservation across the Redlands
- Support sustainable development that genuinely respects our natural environment and Moreton Bay Marine Park
- Push for improved waste management, recycling infrastructure, and community clean-up programs
- Oppose any federal approvals that threaten the ecological values of the Redlands without proper community consultation
Local Infrastructure
The Redlands has been underfunded for too long. Our roads are congested, public transport is inadequate, and community facilities are stretched. As the population grows, the infrastructure must grow with it — and Shaun will fight to make sure the Redlands gets its fair share.
- Push hard for federal funding for the Cleveland rail line upgrade and improved bus services across the electorate
- Advocate for better road maintenance, intersection upgrades, and traffic management on key local routes including the Cleveland-Redland Bay Road corridor
- Fight for investment in active transport — safe cycling paths and pedestrian infrastructure connecting our communities
- Support upgrades to local community facilities, libraries, sporting grounds, and public spaces that residents rely on every day
- Demand that infrastructure planning keeps pace with population growth — no more approving new housing without the roads, schools, and services to support it
Community Services
Strong communities need strong services. From healthcare and aged care to youth programs and mental health support, the Redlands deserves services that are accessible, well-funded, and close to home.
- Fight for better access to bulk-billing GPs and specialist medical services in the Redlands — residents shouldn't have to travel to Brisbane for basic healthcare
- Advocate for improved aged care services and support for seniors to remain in their homes and communities
- Support funding for youth programs, after-school activities, and mental health services for young people in the Redlands
- Push for better NDIS support coordination and disability services locally
- Advocate for a stronger community services sector — including funding for local charities and not-for-profits doing vital work in our area
